Day Off for the Wind

4/6/12, Rio Grande River Valley, CO - With 40 mph winds, gusting to 70, Dave and I took it easy for most of the day.  With the wind blowing up the river, it looked like the water was flowing uphill.

The horses took advantage of the downtime to catch a few extra Zís.

We saw several herds of wild horses today, but they were all off in the distance.  One herd with a gray mare walked along the river bank to within a half mile of the camp, then turned inland for the hills.

Thereís a little bay mare that is lame in her front left hoof that is hanging out right across the river, but I believe she was one of the domestic horses that was released her in recent years.

The lads enjoyed the sunshine to get some rest.  Even though Doc was tasked with guard duty, he still managed to catch some sleep on his feet.

The next couple of days are supposed to be good weather, so with the wind and sand abated, we should be a little more active.

Dave, feeding the team some carrots.

My internet coverage here along the river is real spotty, but Iíll do my best to post this blog.
